A singer who had several hits in the nineties died last Thursday at her home in Woodbury,
Minnesota, USA, at the age of 66.
A fire broke out in her home

But investigators are now checking whether she died before the fire started, and whether drugs, alcohol, or carbon monoxide complications were involved in her untimely death.

On Thursday at 5:30 a.m., her neighbors reported a fire, and when rescue and fire crews arrived, they found the 66-year-old singer’s body.
The cause of the fire has not yet been released at this stage.

She achieved her greatest success with a song called I Kissed a Girl, released in 1995, thirteen years before another hit with the same name by another artist.
Her song also became a hit on American radio.
When the later artist achieved success with a song of the same name, the singer gave an interview and made a series of exaggerated, strong statements in jest, later clarifying that it was meant as a joke and expressing relief at no longer being identified only with that song.

Her manager said in an interview with Variety magazine that the singer was a force of nature and a human rights activist, whose music became part of the culture.
He expressed that it was a pleasure to work with her and that he lost both a client and a friend.
He hopes her music, memory, and legacy will continue to live on and inspire others.
